Super Quick and Easy Bug Habitat

This tutorial is perfect for a sunny afternoon in lockdown. It uses supplies you'll more than likely already own or be able to collect while out on your walk of the day! This is also great for doing with kids as you can turn it into a whole lesson about the importance of bugs in our ecosystems, a great one for getting outside and getting practical while homeschooling!

Materials Needed

Piece of wood - this can literally be any log, any size, whatever you can find!
A drill
A spade drill bit - this can be any size, it doesn't really even have to be a spade bit if you don't have one, just something to drill holes with - it's lockdown, we have to be able to improvise!

Step 1.

Secure your piece of wood! You can use anything to do this, we used an old pallet and some logs to stop it from rolling around but just use anything you have and keep adjusting until it feels nice and secure and doesn't move around too much!

Step 2.

Start to drill some holes into the wood. There are literally no rules here, just drill as deep as you think is good, you don't want to go all the way through so just make some holes in that little creatures can transform into their homes!

That's it! Super quick and easy! Just keep drilling the holes until you're happy with it! You can even vary up the depth by not going as far into the log, or change up the width by changing drill bit! It's your project so it's up to you what you make! There are simply no strict rules with this one so have fun with it!!

Step 3.

Finally you want to give it a home! We put it right by our fence in amongst our hedge as that's an area where bugs are likely to be present but you can really put it wherever you fancy! Make sure you place it with the holes tilting towards the ground so they don't get filled up when it rains!!
