Twisted Headband


This pattern creates a lovely cosy headband with a pretty twist in the centre. The pattern is created using stockinette stitch and is knit flat and seamed together.

Materials Needed
US 8 - 5mm needles
Tapestry needles
1 x 200g ball chunky weight yarn
Cable needle
Recommended Yarn
James C Brett Flutterby Chunky
Gauge
11 stitches, 18 rows to 4"
Sizing
This pattern has been created to fit an average adult head. To adjust sizing just vary the length you knit before casting off.
Abbreviations
K1 = Knit 1 stitch
P1 = Purl 1 stitch
Wyif = With yarn held in front
Sl = Slip
St(s) = Stitch(es)

Pattern

Cast on 10 stitches

Row 1. 
Wyif sl 1 st knitwise; knit until end of the row
Row 2. 
Wyif sl 1 st knitwise; purl to 1 st before end, K1 

[Note: You can just do normal stockinette stitch knitting all odd rows and purling all even rows however this pattern makes the edges neater]

Repeat the 2-row repeat until 10.5" worked from cast-on edge. 

Put 5 sts onto cable needle, knit 5 stitches from knitting needle, knit 5 stitches from cable needle.

Continue the 2-row repeat until 20.5" worked from the cast-on edge (or as many inches as is suitable for your head)

Finishing

Cast off all stitches and cut yarn leaving enough of a tail to sew the cast on and cast off edges together. 

Sew together the cast on and off edges.
